Behind the Scenes of "Primordials of A Million

Inspired by the tug-of-war gameplay of the "StarCraft 2" mod, "Primordials of Amyrion" gives you the role of one of the four major primordials (legendary creatures with one elemental power each). They are also given a capable army and three champions.

Through macro-level gameplay, you coordinate upgrades, placement of reinforcements, and precise timing of various abilities; played in short one-on-one battles, "Primordials of Amyrion" is engaging, memorable, and above all, intensely exciting. So how was it created?

Domagoja-Ante Sulich, CEO and founder of GD Entertainment, started out with a small group of developers who shared his passion for video games. "GROM - Get Rid of Minions" and "GeoLogic" are already available on the Apple App Store, Sulich and his team have jumped into PC gaming with Primordials of Amyrion, which is now available as an Early Access game on Steam and the Epic Games store.

Sulić gave us an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how "Primordials of Amyrion" was developed and why it has broad appeal for strategy gamers.

GD ENTERTAINMENT is a Croatian game development company founded in 2018. We brought together a group of dedicated game developers and set a simple goal: to create new, fun and original titles.

Our team was very colorful with different gaming tastes, but we all knew we wanted to create something fresh and easy to learn. We were big fans of tug-of-war games like Nexus Wars and Desert Strike, both Starcraft mods.

We all loved the dynamic playability of RTS-based games and were lucky enough to be invited to a meeting with WIREGAMES. They saw the potential to mix RTS gameplay with MOBA elements and thus Primordials of Amyrion was born.

Primordials of Amyrion is a tug-of-war strategy game in which players command an army and three champions as one of the Primordials fighting for the Almighty. Macro-management allows players to select units to send into battle and construct various buildings to upgrade their champions and armies. As one of the primordials, the player has only one goal: to achieve military victory by destroying the enemy primordial or to achieve victory through influence by spreading his influence across the entire map.

Right on target, Primordials of Amyrion is definitely neither a MOBA nor a classic RTS; the MOBA elements are the champion abilities that are activated and the three lanes. That is probably the only MOBA aspect of the game; as for the RTS elements, players can build buildings and upgrade their troops and champions. The main difference lies in the macro aspect of the game. Players do not directly control their troops or champions, nor do they give orders to "destroy this building" or "defeat that enemy. Combat is automated, but the player has full control over any champion or primordial abilities that are activated. Given the right timing, these abilities can be game-changing.

Opinions differ, of course, but the majority of beta testers liked this aspect of the game; some players said they felt like they were playing Black and White all over again, and in a way they were right. During the game, players must manage three lanes, defend their towers, and adapt to their opponents' tactics. Picking new units to spawn or commanding champions to move to different lanes is a simple matter of macro-management; one thing is for sure, the entire match is intense and players are constantly using tactics, champion abilities, and upgrades.

Frankly, it's not that simple a matter. The great thing about Amillion's Founder is that there are many different strategies that can be used to win the game. It all depends on the picks made during the draft phase, where players choose a premodial, a realm (army), and three champions.

Here's a good example. A player who likes to play aggressively would choose "Primordial Nardus" and use its ability to clear enemy waves and push lanes. Defensive players would choose Primordial Elborg and freeze all enemy units, making them easy targets for archers, infantry, mounted units, basically anything. And while we have covered Primordials so far, there are three other champions to choose from. In Primordials of Amyrion, players also have a variety of realms to choose from. Aggressive players will choose the Trakei Forest, with its direwolves and giant strongbarks.

In contrast, defensive types would choose the kingdom of Iblion with its powerful paladins and resilient dwarf units. If there is one important tip, it is this: do not underestimate the importance of upgrades. Every unit in the game has a creature type, and every upgrade is associated with some of those types. Choose your play style, combine your units, and upgrade whenever possible.

Primordials of Amyrion is an exciting new take on RTS and MOBA games, easy to learn and extremely versatile and intense for a variety of play styles. It is currently available as an Early Access game on Steam and the Epic Games store, with a full launch scheduled for later this year. Strategy gamers will not want to miss out on this title.
