Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, and Neal McDonough to cast "Resident Evil" movie reboot

Last year it was revealed that a reboot of the long-running "Resident Evil" film series is in the works. According to a new report today by Deadline, the film will return to the series' origins and tell the story of "that fateful night in Raccoon City" in 1998.

The six films in the "Resident Evil" series starring Milla Jovich have not always been critical hits (Rotten Tomatoes described the first film, released in 2002, as "flashy, violent, formulaic and cheesy," while the latest film, "The Final Chapter," released in 2016, was "mind-numbingly chaotic (which he described as "mind-numbingly chaotic"), have made a combined $1.2 billion at the box office, and have been surprisingly profitable. But after nearly 20 years, it is time for a change. [After a dozen games, six live-action films, and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we wanted to go back to 1998 and explore the secrets behind the walls of the Spencer mansion and Raccoon City," said producer Robert Kulzer.

The Deadline report also reveals who has signed up so far: ["For this film, we wanted to go back to the original first two games and recreate the terrifying, intuitive experience I had when I first played them," said writer/director Johannes Roberts

The new film is a "realistic and intuitive" film.

No word yet on when the new film will be released, but for those for whom "Resident Evil" is not enough, don't forget that a live-action and CG series are in the works on Netflix. The live-action series does not yet have a release date, but the CGI series will be called "Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness" and will debut in 2021. Here is a teaser.
