General
Ziggurat 2, a first-person roguelike dungeon exploration, launches this month on Steam.

Look at the image above; Ziggurat 2 has an angry carrot. Yes, Ziggurat 2 does exist, and it will launch in Early Access on October 23. It's a sequel to the well-received 2014 original, a hectic first-person combat dungeon crawling roguelike reminiscent of the old Heretic and Hexen.

Back to the angry carrots, which were also present in the first game, but this time they are more graphically detailed angry carrots. Aside from the obvious visual upgrade, Ziggurat 2 does its best to refine the original formula. Randomly generated dungeons are "more vertical and varied" as well as more compact rooms. Overall, the emphasis seems to be on making each play shorter and more impactful.

This is an approach that fits well with the game's focus on lightning-fast movement and fast-paced decision-making; according to Milkstone Studios, the Early Access period will last six to nine months and will focus primarily on gathering player feedback. When 1.0 is eventually released, it will include "nearly twice as many equipment items" as this EA build, as well as new characters, enemies, and dungeon types. Alternative modes and daily challenges are also planned.
