Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta Adds Three Modes, New Map, Ping System

The multiplayer open beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War begins today on PlayStation 4 and October 17 for the rest of the world.

The Cold War beta will feature a new jungle-like map in Cartel and a variety of modes, including new modes such as VIP Escort, Combined Arms: Assault, and Fireteam: Dirty Bomb

In Cartel, 6 vs. 6 and 12 vs. 12 modes of play, with a convenient central sniper tower, open areas, warehouses for melee combat, stealth opportunities, and much more.

In VIP Escort, one team takes the VIPs to the escape zone, while the other team tries to stop them. Respawns are disabled, so fallen comrades must be revived. Combined Arms: Assault is the sequel to Combined Arms: Dominations: Dominations, which was playable in the alpha version, has also been added to the list of 12vs12 modes. This is a race to conquer a series of five objectives, with teams advancing further behind enemy lines.

Finally, there is Fireteam: Dirty Bomb, a surprisingly elaborate race with a very grim premise: 40 players, divided into 10 teams, compete to detonate a dirty bomb over a stash of uranium. The radiation caused by the bomb's detonation remains, and part of the map becomes a radioactive danger zone, with the team responsible scoring some points. Players in the radiation-contaminated area suffer from radiation sickness, which affects perk effects, slows movement, reduces recovery of strength, and finally death. It's a fun game.

In addition to new maps and new modes, the beta also allows players to check out other new elements, such as the ping system; Cold War is not the first Call of Duty to follow the welcome trend started with Apex Legends (Warzone is the first), but outside of battle royale This is the first time in the series that this system has been used in a setting. The system allows players to warn their teams of threats, show them their loot, and communicate with them without actually chatting with them.

Less relevant to PC players, the extension of the FOV slider to all platforms is good news if you plan to play "Cold War" on consoles: in addition to changing the FOV, you can switch between various elements such as the crosshairs, health bar, compass, and other UI customize the UI by switching between various elements such as the crosshairs, health bar, compass, etc.

You'll have to wait a bit longer to play it on PC, but in the meantime, expect lots of footage from the PS4 beta. Also, if you pre-order on October 15, you'll be able to play it a little sooner.
