AMD Ryzen 5000 BIOS update is now available.

General
AMD Ryzen 5000 BIOS update is now available.

AMD has not released any new motherboard chipsets to coincide with the release of the Zen 3 chips. This is because these chips are designed to connect directly to existing motherboards, and Asus recently announced that a BIOS update for its 500 series motherboards is now available. This update will support the current generation of chips and the new Zen 3 processor, which is expected to be announced later today.

Asus has provided a comprehensive list of all 500 series motherboards along with the BIOS version numbers that support the new chips. There really are a lot of models out there. It is expected that other motherboard manufacturers will soon follow suit.

Notable in this announcement is the absence of 400 series motherboards, as AMD initially stated that 400 series motherboards had come to an end and then promised to support them, so we do not believe this means that such upgrades will not be made. BIOS Notable in the update announcement is that the 500 motherboards will support Zen 2 and Zen 3 processors, while the 400 series motherboards are expected to lose Zen+ support once they are updated to support Zen 3: ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero, the TUF Gaming X570-Pro (WiFi), and the ROG Strix B550-XE Gaming WiFi. This last product is an interesting one; Asus calls it a new flagship B550 motherboard, with 16 power stages, improved VRM cooling, and an additional M.2 x16 Gen 4 card to complement the existing M.2 slot pair.
