AMD's high-end Ryzen 5000 CPUs do not come with coolers because they are "optimized for enthusiasts".

AMD's Ryzen 5000 series CPUs have been announced, and they look like the red-team gaming chips we've always wanted, nay, needed. Only one, the least expensive Ryzen 5 5600X, comes with a low-profile Wraith Stealth CPU cooler.

That these chips do not come with a cooler is not that surprising. We were smitten with the included chip coolers, and they performed surprisingly well for virtually free equipment, but in the Ryzen refresh earlier this year when three chips were released - Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ryzen 7 3800XT, and Ryzen 5 3600XT - two out of three They did not come with.

According to AMD's website, only the Ryzen 5 5600X will have an included cooler. This cooler will be a Wraith Stealth, a slight downgrade from the Wraith Spire included with the Ryzen 5 3600XT. The other high-end Ryzen 5000 chips announced so far are "optimized for enthusiasts" and will not be included.

AMD recommends that high-end CPUs be cooled with liquid cooling (or don't forget high-end air-cooled coolers), so it is not surprising that they have moved to almost completely ditch the included coolers. It's a shame, though, because I was a big fan of Wraith Prism.
