Amazon gives up on Crucible and offers a full refund.

Amazon's free-to-play shooter Crucible was a flop. Our review was 48%, and a month after its release Amazon put it back into closed beta. The plan was to continue development and determine what to do next with the feedback from the few players who rallied around the game. I had hoped that the game would once again be released to the public and be a success, but that would not be the case.

In a post on the official Crucible website, the studio announced that development of Crucible would end when the final feature of the roadmap, a custom game, was released. The servers will then be closed.

"We are very grateful for the fans rallying around our efforts," the developers wrote, "and we loved seeing the reaction to the changes we made over the past few months." Ultimately, however, we did not see a healthy and sustainable future beyond Crucible."

The Crucible team will be moved on to other Amazon projects, including the MMO New World, which was supposed to be released this year but was pushed back to 2021.

The final play session for Crucible will be held by the developers "in the coming weeks," after which matchmaking will be turned off. Custom games (the last scheduled feature) will function until November 9 at 12 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

Amazon is offering a full refund of Crucible in-game purchases, which can be applied for here.
