Razer's new pill-shaped microphone, the Seiren Mini, costs only $50

Razer made the gaming microphone scene a little more competitive today with the unveiling of its new $50 Seiren Mini microphone at RazerCon. This single 14mm condenser USB microphone seeks to provide pro-grade audio to streamers on a budget without driving them into bankruptcy.

Razer touts that its ultra-unidirectional pickup pattern and flatter frequency response allows it to reproduce clearer and more accurate audio than its direct competitor, the Blue Snowball Ice. It would also be a good match for the JLab Talk Go, another really good $50 microphone.

However, this is not the only comparison Razer made to Blue's microphone during the product presentation. One of the more interesting claims is that the microphone quality of the Seiren Mini is comparable to, if not better than, the Blue Yeti Nano and Yeti microphones; the Seiren Mini has a flatter frequency response curve that is designed to more accurately reflect actual voices.

Blue Yeti microphones are more feature-rich and generally more than twice the price. In addition, they are much larger. This small pill-shaped microphone is just over 6 inches tall and weighs less than a pound, so it's easy to carry around and takes up little room on your desk.

The tagline "Clarity in a compact size" is a perfect fit for the Siren Mini.

To achieve the $50 price point and maintain the high sound quality, Razer chose to eliminate the knobs, 3.5mm monitor connection, and even the mute button.

Razer's goal was to make the Seiren Mini as easy as possible to plug-and-play microphone, designed purely for entry-level content creators who want better sound than they can get from their gaming headset options It is.

So it will be interesting to hear how the Mini stacks up when we get our hands on it in a few weeks; the Razer Seiren Mini is available today on Razer.com for $49.99, with a choice of black, white or pink.
