Amazon's annual Prime Day event motivates other vendors to offer their own discounts, and in this case, the Ryzen 7 4800H processor (8C/16T, 2.9GHz-4.2GHz, 8MB L3 cache) and GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, the Asus TUF Gaming A15 laptop is available for $799.99. This is $200 less than the list price.

Compared to the $1,300 configuration Dave reviewed for us in April (which we consider the best mid-range gaming laptop), this particular configuration is a bit toned down: 16GB of RAM, 8GB SSD instead of 1TB, and 512GB. Also, no mention is made of refresh rate, so we can assume that a 60 Hz screen is used instead of 144 Hz.

These are reasonable trade-offs for the money. That said, the first thing I would do is upgrade the RAM by adding an 8GB DDR4-3200 stick. Doing so would be about $30, which would still put this laptop in bargain territory.
