Solid state storage has never been cheaper, to be sure, but if you want to completely replace your NAS drives with terabytes of solid state storage, you're going to have to spend a lot. For this reason, we recommend running your PC on solid state and keeping your cold storage on spinning platters; Amazon Prime Day offers storage at discounted prices.

We PC gamers love super-fast SSDs for Steam, Origin, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net, but we also love a good NAS drive. Don't you? If you're a content creator who deals with a lot of footage for gameplay or Twitch VoD, you're going to want a NAS drive. That's why we were intrigued to see the WD Red Plus 10TB drive on sale for 40% off. It has a rated RPM of 5400RPM, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem unless it's storage that's used all the time. Also, the Plus model should mean that it is the better CMR variant, not the SMR model, but be sure to check whatever it is. [It's best for game library storage, where the snappy performance of NVMe is not always at its full potential, or if you're already using all the available NVMe M.2 slots. And if you're not inclined to go with a SATA drive unless it offers the best performance, Samsung's 860 Pro 1TB is offered at 33% off; with $729.99 in funds, you can upgrade to a 4TB drive.

Remember, you must be a Prime member to take advantage of many of the deals below. If you are not a member or don't want to bother signing up, check out Newegg, which also offers many of the same products at great prices.

There are plenty of inexpensive storage options this Amazon Prime Day 2020.

If you're still on the fence about which drive to go with, here are the basics: HDDs (rotating platters) are currently the slowest drives, at least commercially, and are best for cold storage (something you don't touch much); SSDs come in two main varieties: SATA and NVMe. The latter is the fastest and is recommended for boot drives. Make sure your motherboard has an M.2 slot, a spare PCIe slot and adapter, and that it supports PCIe speeds.
