After removing Washington's old team name from Fortnite, Epic offers refund for NFL skins

In July, Electronic Arts removed the name of Washington's National Football League team from Madden NFL 21. Now, according to Fortnite Intel, Epic Games has followed EA in removing that name from Fortnite's NFL skins.

Eight NFL skins (Rush, Juke, Interceptor, Blitz, Strong Guard, Spike, Gridiron, and End Zone) were introduced to Fortnite in the 2018 Fourth Down Set, long before the Washington owners decided to make the change. They were introduced in the "Fourth Down Set" in 2018, long before Washington's owners decided to change them. After this update, the colors are still the same, but the names and logos are gone.

According to the in-game message announcing the change, players unhappy with the change have until November 12 to request a refund and are not required to use a refund token; as explained on Epic's support site, all Fortnite players have three "refund tokens" and can request a refund for eligible items purchased in the game within 30 days, no questions asked. However, since there are only three and once they are gone, they are no longer available, most players will naturally be very selective in their purchases.

To request a refund, go to your profile page in Fortnite settings and enter Lifetime Return Requests. You should see the NFL skins eligible for a refund in the "Send Request" option, but if the button is grayed out, you may need to play the game or enter or exit creative mode.

We have asked Epic for comment on this change and will update if we hear back. By the way, the Washington NFL team does not yet have a new name. It is currently called the Washington Football Team and the logo is a big "W."

Thanks, Polygon.
