Facebook Account Issues Disable Some Oculus Quest 2 Headsets

Imagine being banned (through no fault of your own) from an online service that requires you to use the $300+ hardware you just bought. Unfortunately, some early adopters of Oculus Quest 2 do not require a vivid imagination.

To use Oculus Quest 2, users must have a Facebook account, as Oculus explains in its FAQ, although users with an Oculus account also have the option to integrate with their Facebook account In any case, Facebook is a prerequisite for using the second generation Quest headset.

This arbitrary requirement has already caused consternation for some and is further exacerbated by some initial glitches in the setup process.

"Got Quest 2 today, created a new Facebook account under my real name (didn't have one before) and merged my 4 year old Oculus account with it. Immediately got banned after 10 minutes and now I can't access my account or use the device," the Reddit user complained.

The user stated that they were asked to provide a photo of their driver's license to verify their identity, but to no avail. Check out this pesky error message they received:

The user's Facebook account was deactivated and a message appeared stating that "the decision cannot be reversed." in an email to UploadVR, other users encountered the same or similar problems and several Quest 2 owners claim that the headset is essentially a paperweight at this point.

Facebook provided a statement to the site, stating that only a "small minority" of Oculus users are having problems logging in.

"Those who are having problems logging into their devices are not losing access to the content they have purchased, according to reports from customer service... If you are unable to log into Quest 2 with your Facebook account, you may be experiencing temporary content access If you are unable to log in to Quest 2 with your Facebook account, you may experience temporary problems accessing content, but you will be able to access your content once the login issue is resolved," Facebook said.

The problem, however, is actually resolving the issue; according to Facebook, anyone having problems setting up the Quest 2 headset or integrating their account will need to submit a troubleshooting ticket to Oculus support.
