It lists ways retailers should be careful to ensure that AMD RX 6000 GPUs and Ryzen 5000 CPUs get into the hands of real consumers.
The document, allegedly leaked by YouTube channel RedGamingTech (via Videocardz) and sent to AMD's retail partners, lists multiple ways AMD recommends to prevent bots and ensure (as much as possible) a smooth launch These include: [1. These include:
This more or less reads like a list of tactics that Nvidia is talking about or that partners are deploying for the RTX 30 series web store implementation. You can see the full text in the RedGamingTech video below.
"Our top priority is to make it easy for gamers, enthusiasts, and creators to purchase AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards and AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors at launch and beyond," the alleged document stated.
Clearly, if this document is the source, AMD wants to avoid the pitfalls that plagued the Nvidia RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 at launch. Low supply, dodgy private resellers, and price gouging are common in large launches where demand often exceeds supply.
That said, there is still a question in my mind as to whether AMD and its partners can really do anything to stave off the inevitable inventory shortages. [If the document is genuine, one would expect that maintaining an image of actively fighting resellers and bots was a consideration in creating (and potentially leaking) such a document.
AMD's chief gaming architect, Frank Azor, was confident that AMD could at least deliver more than a "paper launch" with RDNA 2.
The demand for AMD's RX 6000 series GPUs is all about the green team's Ampere generation It all depends on whether they can keep up. Early leaks suggest that they will be somewhat comparable to the high-end Ampere, but how AMD's cards will ultimately measure up, and at what cost, is still a mystery. At the very least, we are hopeful for the performance of the second generation RDNA 2.
We have contacted our own contacts to confirm AMD's documentation and will update this article if we hear anything back.
