Devolver Digital, which has published the last two "Serious Sam" games, two HD remakes, and "The Talos Principle," decided to simplify the relationship by acquiring developer Croteam. [Ten years ago, Devolver Digital was just starting out and looking for its first project to partner with in the emerging digital distribution world. Similarly, Croteam was looking for a reliable partner to make their beloved franchise famous again with the upcoming "Serious Sam 3". Since then, Croteam and Devolver Digital have partnered on numerous games across PC, console, VR, and mobile platforms, from the "Serious Sam" series to the award-winning "The Talos Principle. Devolver Digital have been together for so long that we decided to get married."

By "old partners" we refer to the Gathering of Developers: the Gathering of Developers was founded in 2001 by Mike Wilson in 1998, who Croteam also noted the long-standing relationship in a Twitter announcement.

Devolver indicated that the acquisition would have little impact on the working relationship, stating that Croteam would "continue to make dumb proposals that Croteam will ignore" while Croteam would "maintain complete creative freedom."

Upcoming Croteam games include "The Talos Principle 2," which is still in production, "Serious Sam," and new titles from the studio and its Croteam Incubator partners.
