Kojima Productions is hiring for a new game.

Kojima Productions is hiring for a new game.

Kojima Productions has confirmed, to no one's surprise, that it is preparing something new. Director Hideo Kojima himself had teased it back in June with a photo of a messy desk. But now it's official. Double official?

Anyone expecting more details about the game was unfortunately out of luck. The tweet confirmed that "a new project is in development" and that the studio is looking for "the best talent" to work with them in Tokyo, but gave no hint as to what they are working on.

Developers always like to say they are working on a "project" as if it were something other than another game, but with Kojima Productions, a game is not always guaranteed. Kojima Productions has a wide range of ambitions, as films and manga have been mentioned as things that Kojima Productions and Director Kojima would like to be personally involved with. This time, however, it is definitely games. Since the roles currently open include game designer and programmer, I think this guess is fairly safe.

The possibility of a "Death Stranding" sequel is something that both Kojima and Norman Reedus have discussed. I was enamored with "Death Stranding" and would love to see the studio embark on something new. Last year, Kojima said that he did not want a direct sequel to Death Stranding, but rather a "start from scratch." This year, Reedus also said that he and Kojima had talked about working together again, possibly on a continuation of Death Stranding.

However, after a game as large and elaborate as "Death Stranding," the studio may want something a little smaller. In an interview with Famitsu, Kojima said that he wanted to make smaller games and episodic games rather than large productions. However, in the same interview he said that Kojima Productions is trying to juggle multiple projects, including another major production.

There are few clues as to what the next game will look like, but it may feature a lot of mecha. There were few mechas in Death Stranding, but mechas are lead artist Yoji Shinkawa's specialty, and Kojima said he would like to make a game with more mechas. Kojima has stated that he would like to make games with more mecha.

The team is still being formed, so details about the game won't be available for a while, but in the meantime we'll have to scour Kojima's Twitter feed for clues.
