EVGA Releases Beta BIOS to Raise Power Limit on RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra

EVGA has another treat for extreme overclockers who want to push the limits of their GPUs. It's another BIOS update, this time for the GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra, and like the one released for the RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, the maximum power target has been raised.

EVGA last time (last week) raised the power limit for the RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra from 400W to 450W; the forum post announcing the availability of a BIOS update for the RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra does not mention where exactly the limit is set It does not mention where exactly the limit is set, but one user who has tried it reports that it is 500W. In the forum thread, other users report a bit lower.

If it does reach 500W, it would be another 50W above the card's stock power limit. Also, as before, the BIOS update is "intended for extreme overclocking users only, no other changes. In other words, unless you plan to provide adequate cooling and push your card to its limits, this BIOS is not for you.

Also note that this is only for the FTW3 Ultra model and does not cover the non-Ultra version. However, further down this thread, EVGA product manager Jacob Freeman says to expect a BIOS update for the regular FTW3 variant.

One of the advantages of the RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra is dual BIOS support. As Freeman confirmed, users can leave the "normal" BIOS power target at its stock setting and flash only the "OC" BIOS to achieve higher power targets and switch between them as needed.

If you own the card (all 12 of us who were able to beat the bot on launch day) and would like to apply the new BIOS, please visit the forum thread.
