In American football terms, the "Legion of Boom" was once the Seattle Seahawks, who at one time won the Super Bowl with a strong squad. Similarly, Lenovo's new Legion Slim 7 combines AMD's Ryzen 4000 series mobile CPUs with up to GeForce RTX 2060 (Max-Q) GPUs, flanked by large amounts of RAM and storage, in an attempt to bring the boom with its own strong front line

In any case.

In any case, the Legion Slim 7 comes in a variety of configurations, starting with the CPU: a Ryzen 7 4800H, a Ryzen 9 4900H, or the mysterious "Ryzen 9 4600H." No such chip exists, and what Lenovo really meant was either the Ryzen 5 4600H or the Ryzen 9 4900HS.

Be that as it may, the Ryzen 9 4900H is AMD's flagship mobile CPU by a mile. It's an 8-core/16-thread part with a base clock of 3.3 GHz, a maximum boost clock of 4.4 GHz, and 8 MB of L3 cache. The Ryzen 7 4800H, on the other hand, is the same CPU found in the Asus TUF A15 Dave we reviewed in April, scoring 91/100.

There are also three choices for GPUs: the GeForce GTX 1650 Ti, the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (Max-Q), and the GeForce RTX 2060 (Max-Q). Of course, Max-Q GPUs do not offer as much performance as full-power GPUs, but they allow for thinner and lighter designs. In this case, the Legion 7 Slim is only 0.7 inches thick and weighs 3.96 pounds.

For RAM and storage, Lenovo offers 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB DDR4-3200 options for the former and 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB M.2 NVMe SSDs for the latter. This means that a Ryzen 9 4900H, 32GB of DDR4-3200, 2TB of storage, and an RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU could be installed.

On the subject of 3, Lenovo offers a trio of 15.6-inch display options. Two of them are 1920x1080 screens, one at 60 Hz and the other at 144 Hz. Both are IPS screens with 300 nits brightness and support for HDR (Dolby Vision); the third display option is a 4K IPS screen with a higher 500 nits brightness and DisplayHDR 400 certification. For gaming, 4K is a demanding requirement even with RTX 2060 Max-Q.

Other features include Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) wireless connectivity (with optional Killer AX1650 upgrade), Bluetooth 5.1, 2W Dolby Atmos speakers, two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C ports, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a 4-in-1 media card reader, and audio jacks.

As with any thin, lightweight laptop with high-power components, cooling is probably the biggest concern. We have not tested this laptop, but the all-aluminum chassis should help dissipate heat, at least in theory; Lenovo also touts its "Coldfront 2.0" system, which is essentially a vapor-chamber cooling scheme, dual fans, airflow accompanied by four dedicated thermal channels for orientation.

The Legion Slim 7 will be available this month starting at $1,370.
