'Due Process' is Brutal and Gorgeous, Early Access Starts This Week

"Due Process" is a competitive FPS that looks familiar in many parts, but the experience is new: developed by Giant Enemy Crab and published by Annapurna Interactive, the game has been in the beta phase for some time, but this week it began to make its way into Steam's Early Access.

The game is currently unlisted, but can be purchased here, as announced on the Due Process Discord: "We are taking the next step and moving into Early Access this week at a time and place of our choosing. With the release of Early Access comes a significant discount. In addition, we will continue our buyout campaign for a bit longer."

That is.

That means that by the end of the week it will be even cheaper and you can buy two copies at that price.

Why the interest? The Due Process map pool is already so large that it is being assembled by developers "curating" or refining procedurally generated maps. New maps are added every week, and the most recent update appears to have added at least 40 maps.

Overlaid on top of this is a tactical map on which each team member can doodle, and the doodles are displayed from a first-person perspective. Obviously many people just draw dicks, but this is a really useful ...... Tool.

"Due Process" has its own style in other areas, especially the beautifully chunky lo-fi art style combined with a booming line of audiovisual effects. The game loves explosions, it loves the moment of impact when one team rushes at another with flashbangs and flashlights, and very often dies as much from confusion as from who shot them.

This will not be for everyone. There are few competitive experiences that are so brutal at times and expose the lack of teamwork so blatantly. But it is also a fresh take on one of the most hotly contested genres. If you've ever felt like you know Dust II better than your own living room, I suggest you give Due Process a little play.
