AMD's Ryzen 9 3900XT on sale for $455, comes with Far Cry 6

AMD's Ryzen 5000 series is about to launch on November 5, which means two things: it will be the first of its kind in the world, and it will be the first of its kind in the world. If you are interested in the latter, check out the current price of the Ryzen 9 3900XT.

This is a very high-end chip, and Amazon has it down to $454.99, a drop of about $25 (you can also get it at Newegg for this price by using promo code 93XPW75 at checkout). This price is $94 ($1) less than the Ryzen 9 5900X. [Both have 12 cores and 24 threads, 64MB of L3 cache, PCIe 4.0 support, and a 105W TDP.

The Ryzen 9 3900XT has a base clock of 3.8 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 4.6 GHz, while the Ryzen 9 5900X has a base clock of 3.7 GHz (100 MHz slower) and a maximum boost clock of 4.8 GHz (200 MHz faster). AMD is using the Zen 3 architecture (Ryzen 5000 series) claims to be 19% faster than Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000 series). And this is very important for gaming performance, which AMD claims to have greatly improved with Zen 3. However, with a $94 price difference, the 3900XT is still a very attractive processor, currently ranked as one of the best CPUs for gaming. Furthermore, it is also the subject of AMD's "Far Cry 6" promotion, further increasing its value.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Ryzen 3000 series is upgradeable on short notice. If you want to save a few dollars, we recommend pairing it with an X570 or B550 motherboard. After that, if you want to upgrade to the Ryzen 5000 series (AMD's Zen processors traditionally drop in price quickly), you have that option.

Side note: If you want to go in the opposite direction and get a lower-priced chip for less, you can get a Ryzen 5 3600XT bundled with an MSI gaming mouse on eBay for $229.99 (via Antonline). The same motherboard/upgrade pass applies.
