Nvidia RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 GPUs may be leaked to Comet Lake laptops

We can't wait to see the new RTX 30 series on mobile, based on the same Ampere architecture currently seen on desktops, such as the recently announced Nvidia RTX 3070. According to leaks from the website GiggleHD (Videocardz), we can expect to see at least mobile versions of the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 Mobile in Max-Q form, as well as the standard RTX 3060.

According to a GiggleHD user, the above table is apparently "a sheet that manufacturers gave out for pre-orders before the RTX 30-powered notebooks were released." I don't see any variations here other than the top-of-the-line RTX 30 series SKU Max-Q. However, the (as yet unannounced) low-end GeForce RTX 3060 appears to have a full-fat variant for mobile use.

If true, this would imply that there will be an RTX 3060 for desktops as well, which will happen in time.

Max-Q GPUs are specifically designed to fit into a tighter power envelope and are built to accommodate thin and light laptop designs. Non-Max-Q variants are usually a bit beefier, although they do not always match their desktop counterparts.

All of these laptops are powered by 10th generation Comet Lake-H processors, but not necessarily only 10th generation chips will be paired with these mobile 30 series chips. both Intel and AMD will soon release new mobile chips and we expect a veritable feast of high-performance gaming laptops to begin.

These are still just rumors at this point, and there has been no announcement from Nvidia on this matter yet. Confirmation of a new mobile GPU may not come until CES 2021 on January 11, 2021 at the latest. Stay tuned for updates and as always, take leaked information with a pinch of salt.
