No Man's Sky Revamps Visuals with Next Generation Update

The next update to No Man's Sky is not for us. The next-generation update was announced today, and its key features will only apply if you decide to buy a new Microsoft or Sony TV box next month. However, the space-spanning title for the new consoles has some nice visual advantages for those exploring the galaxy on the PC.

Cut through the new console-specific features (to be fair, these versions will be nearly equivalent to the PC version) and you'll find some nice new visual upgrades for players on the "Ultra" graphics setting. The density of detailed models of grass, rocks, fungi, and strange space hexagons has skyrocketed, and the overall rendering distance of all objects has been increased.

Model and texture definition has also been "greatly improved," and grass now deflects aside nicely when walking through the field. And it all looks very nice in comparison shots that show a world less plagued by the dramatic lack of detail that one might associate with the world of "No Man's Sky."

Along with the visual upgrades, there are several other fixes and improvements. Target locking in orbital dogfights has been enhanced, and many icons have been updated. The full list can be scrolled in the 3.10 patch notes at the bottom of the update page.

The next generation update for No Man's Sky will be available for free download when the new console is released. Until then, there's time to dive into the spooky cosmic wreckage of No Man's Sky's Halloween update and unlock the funny monster hats.
