Hunt and Ghost with Sea Of Thieves' Fate Of The Damned Update

Sea Of Thieves is getting pretty scary. Well, scarier than usual for this already skeleton-filled game. This year's "Fate Of The Damned" event sets sail today, sending out a bunch of bad guys to unravel the mystery of the missing bilge rat crew.

Of course, ghosts and demons loom. And skeletons. Dozens of skeletons.

A foul mist engulfs the sea, flaming pumpkins litter the islets, and undead demons return to haunt the sandboxes of rare sailors. Talking to NPC Larianna in the game's tavern will send you in search of the lost crew member, and you'll get the spooky loot you deserve. In addition, if you get the ritual skull, you can island them in a cursed fortress for better rewards.

These voyages are not the only journeys that can be made during the event. Each week there will be new challenges that will have you battling fearsome enemies across the game's oceans. Completing these challenges will unlock Soul Flame weapons, and completing the special Slayer of Fate challenge will earn you a Haunted Lantern. Pirate Legends who complete all of the event challenges will receive bewitching soul frame costumes for themselves and their crew, all of whom will be transformed into corpse-clad rogues.

Outside of Skelly Hunting, the store has been updated with a catalog of haunted cosmetics to slap on ships and crews. If you're willing to part with some real cash, you can get some awfully cute skeletal creatures.

Finally, this update adds a few nifty features. Primarily, there is a new option to toggle "auto-move" on certain keys, which not only works as expected while navigating, but also on certain ship interactions such as raising the capstan. Also, a new in-game event tracker will help keep track of various errands across the seas. The full lineup of features, fixes, and balance changes can be found in the 2.0.19 patch notes.
