HP's Reverb G2 VR headset will soon be available at retailers

Good news for those hoping to get their hands on HP's highly anticipated Reverb G2 headset before the end of the year. Pre-orders continue to ship on schedule, and HP is shipping units to retail partners as well.

Exactly when they will be available on Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers is not yet known. To be clear, HP has not revealed which retail partners will carry the headset, but the two companies just mentioned are likely candidates.

Confirmation of the retail shipment comes from Joanna Popper, HP's global head of VR, who posted an update on Reddit (via UploadVR).

"We have received our final units and are very excited about the HP Reverb G2 product. We have officially started production and have begun shipping the first units to our channel partners," Popper said.

Popper added that pre-orders will begin early next month and shipments will continue through December. These schedules have not changed from those announced in September.

If one pre-orders the Reverb G2 before September 24, one can expect delivery in early to mid-November; if one pre-orders after September 24, one can expect delivery in December. You can also pre-order the Reverb G2 directly from HP for $600, in which case it will probably ship in December.

We have not yet tested the Reverb G2, but in any case, on paper, it has a good chance of being one of the best VR headsets out there, not a standalone like the Oculus Quest 2, which requires a moderately powerful PC like the Valve Index

HP is a very powerful game.

HP has worked with Valve and Microsoft to develop the Reverb G2, which the company considers a "breakthrough VR headset." Part of this includes fine IPD (interpupillary distance) adjustment to position the lens width exactly where it needs to be.

Also worth noting is the panel resolution of 2160x2160 per eye; the Index is 1440x1600 and the Quest 2 is 1832x1920; only the Pimax 8K (as far as I know) has a higher, upscaled 3840x2160 per eye resolution, which is a $1299 headset (full bundle including controller and base station is $1799).
