Speed Up Your Home Network with a High-Speed Wi-Fi 6 Router on Sale for $150

Best Buy has all kinds of gadgets on sale for Black Friday at discounted prices, including Netgear's Nighthawk AX5200 dual-band wireless router, which complies with the latest Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard. This is fast, with some notable bells and whistles, and half off the regular price.

Slashed to $149.99, this model (RAX48-100NAS) appears to be a Best Buy exclusive SKU. It is not uncommon for larger retailers to get their own models, we just need to do a little research to figure out how they compare to other options. In this case, the RAX48 is a step lower than the RAX50 (AX5400), which sells for $299.99 on Amazon.

The highlight here is Wi-Fi 6 support. Without getting too technical, the Wi-Fi 6 standard was specifically designed to handle a large number of Internet-connected devices simultaneously. The caveat is that your device must support Wi-Fi 6 to take full advantage of the Wi-Fi 6 standard, but even those that do not will work with a Wi-Fi 6 router. Therefore, if you are purchasing a new router today, I would definitely recommend the Wi-Fi 6 model over Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac).

Netgear's RAX48 is a 6-stream model; it is called the AX5200 because it supports speeds of up to 4,800 Mbps on the 5 GHz band and 460 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. The more expensive RAX50 is also a 6-stream router, with the only speed advantage in the 2.4GHz band (up to 600Mbps).

As is customary with wireless routers, there is a built-in switch for connecting up to four wired devices. There is also a USB 3.0 port on the back, useful for sharing storage over a network. Printers can also be shared this way, although most modern printers support Wi-Fi connectivity.

I have not tested this particular model, but have spent time testing and reviewing several Nighthawk models in the past. Generally speaking, the Nighthawk performs well in both speed and wireless range. It's the same price as the Nighthawk AX4, our pick for the best gamer Wi-Fi 6 router on a budget.
