Steam release of "Guild Wars 2" on "hold

The cool MMO kids are all over Steam: Star Wars: The Old Republic joined Valve's storefront this year, and RuneScape also made its way to Steam. ArenaNet had planned to release Guild Wars 2 on Steam in November, but announced that the release would be "on hold for the time being" in order to focus on the upcoming End of Dragons expansion.

Here is what the team had to say on their blog: Our first priority is to create Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons to the high quality you have come to expect and deserve. Furthermore, we are working at full speed to ensure that the epic climax of the Iceblood Saga rivals (and hopefully exceeds) the Living World finale to date."

When the Steam release of Guild Wars 2 was announced earlier this year, we noted that existing accounts would not be compatible. This means that if you switch to the Steam version, you will not be able to bring characters you have already created into the Steam version. (If you have not yet played Guild Wars 2 and are thinking about giving it a try, or are planning to get a new PC for the Steam version, we recommend that you play as a Norn so that you can experience their starting area, the Wayfarer foothills)

At launch in 2012, Guild Wars 2 was our MMO of the year.
