G.Skill Launches $20 Keycaps to Make RGB Keyboards Shine Even Brighter

With all due respect to Coolio and his love of West Coast parties, there is no party like an RGB party. But G.Skill's new Crystal Crown keycap is ready to crash this party.

The keycaps have a black or white coating on the top half, a bold sans serif font, and a transparent two-layer design on the bottom half that "brightens up" the mechanical keyboard's RGB and regular LED backlighting.

"Compatible with mechanical key switches with cross-shaped MX style stems and designed with carefully selected font characters for high visibility, the Crystal Crown keycap set upgrades the experience and feel of a professional mechanical keyboard G.Skill states, "The Crystal Crown keycap set upgrades the experience and feel of a professional mechanical keyboard.

Many mechanical keyboards use a cross-shaped stem, like Cherry MX and various alternative brands. For example, I use the Razer BlackWidow Ultimate (made in 2014) every day, which uses Razer's proprietary Green switches.

The larger question I have is what type of plastic G.Skill uses. Initially, I thought it might be double-shot PBT. However, when I contacted G.Skill, they told me that the top side is ABS and the transparent layer is PC (polycarbonate). Apparently polycarbonate is the plastic used for transparent keycaps.

In any case, G.Skill's Crystal Crown keycaps are relatively affordable; Amazon sells both black and white versions for $20, about $5 less than the standalone Pudding keycaps.

We got a set paired with G.Skill's affordable, impossibly bright white LED-lit KM360 board.
