Old School Runescape sets record with 157,445 concurrent weekend visitors

Is nostalgia good enough for you? Old School Runescape, a browser MMO redux, broke its own record for player count, hitting 157,445 PCs at one time.

Runescape's developer, Jagex, runs the latest league, a seasonal variation of the game in which players start new characters on a time-limited server with specific rules and tasks. This time, players will compete with an Ironman account (no trades, no XP distribution), anchored in a region called Misthalin.

The new league started last Wednesday, October 28, and yesterday lead content developer Kieren Charles reported record player numbers for Old School Runescape.

Incidentally, the number of 157,445 players puts it in the top 10 most played games on Steam today.

The current Trailblazer League will run through January 6. Completing tasks earns you league points, which you can use to obtain powerful relics to enhance your playstyle. There will also be a rap promoting the league, 2007, remember?
