Raven reveals details of the "Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War" campaign mission.

Betas, trailers, ARGs, Warzone integration, there's no shortage of ways to get excited about the upcoming Call of Duty, and with Cold War less than two weeks away from launch, Raven's creative director, Dan Vondrak, has three campaign missions He has been promoting the game by saying too much about the game's three campaign missions.

If you're looking to play the Cold War campaign without any context, now is the time to jump ship. Each story description includes an in-engine flyover of the environments featured in that mission. Spoiler Warning.

The first mission is "Nowhere Left to Run," which kicks off the story Activision eagerly teased in the trailer; Vondrak describes this mission as a rendezvous at a neon-lit bar in Amsterdam that eventually leads to a deadly rooftop chase He explains that it will evolve into a play." 'Nowhere Left to Run' is a great example of how we wanted to pay homage to the original 'Black Ops' in several ways that fans will recognize," he said.

The homage would be to the first mission of the original "Black Ops". While that mission quickly devolved into an all-out war on the streets of Cuba, "Nowhere Left to Run" may prove to be less over-the-top, as it is a search for a single target in an ongoing hostage crisis. Vondrak also noted that this first mission will feature the RCXD car that has been tearing my legs apart for the past decade.

"As the mission nears its end, the story opens dramatically as it becomes clear that the ghosts of the past are still alive and planning something that will change the balance of power in the Cold War. The "ghost" they refer to is Perseus, a Soviet spy whose existence has never been confirmed.

Next comes Cold War's second mission, "Fracture Jaw," in which players return to the Vietnam War to witness their "first encounter" with Perseus. According to Raven, this is the first of many flashbacks to Vietnam. Vondrak said, "It was great to be able to push the big war feeling on all these levels, from piloting a helicopter to being a soldier on the ground fighting in the jungle and rice paddies."

According to Vondrak, through flashbacks, the characters in "Cold War" are trying to "blur" past events bit by bit. This feels like a return to the original "Black Ops," which threw reality out the window and surprised players with a twist. If so, the player character may not always be a reliable narrator in "Cold War."

The last mission detailed is "Desperate Measures," which has had limited release in the past.

"After identifying some clues in the search for Perseus, the team is faced with the unthinkable: they must go behind the Iron Curtain - into the heart of the Soviet Union - and infiltrate KGB headquarters," says Vondrak. If the only way to catch Perseus is to break into the Soviet Death Star, the search for Perseus must be going quite badly.

We got to see quite a bit of this mission in a preview presentation Activision gave a few months ago. Players begin undercover, sneaking around the Lubyanka Building to gather information and execute stealth takedowns like a small hitman level. Nevertheless, it wouldn't be CoD without the stealth eventually being broken and exploding into a bloody getaway.

It is surprising to see so much information about the story being dropped so close to release. Thankfully, most of these new details are about missions we already knew about. At this rate, Vondrak will blurt out the identity of Perseus by next week.
