Released in 2015, Kingdom is a side-scrolling, pixelated management game about the trials and tribulations of royalty. Players take on the role of either king or queen, and their job is to keep the kingdom from falling into decline and destruction. There are many ways to do so - you can throw cold hard cash at your subjects to get them on your side - but as James notes in his review, the early zen-like game quickly becomes very stressful.

The game is currently free on the Humble Store. It will be available in about 6 more days, and once you get it, it will be permanent. You will need a Steam code to take advantage of this promotion, which is available for Mac and Linux as well as Windows.

This is, of course, the original "classic" version of Kingdom. Then came the release of Kingdom: New Lands, which added even more elements to the game. You may have gotten it last year when it was released for free on the Epic Games Store, but there is no harm in owning the game that started it all.

However, don't expect a walk in the park. James wrote in his review, "Kingdom has a beautiful and mysterious world that I really want to explore." There were thrilling moments when a horde of monsters stood up to my last defense and barely made it through the morning."
