Leaked Intel CPU shots show how close Rocket Lake and Alder Lake are to AMD's Ryzen 5000.

In a sign of how close Intel's 11th and 12th generation chips are to launch and to each other, both the upcoming Intel Rocket Lake and Alder Lake chips released actual silicon photos today.

Intel's 11th generation Rocket Lake processors will be available in Q1 2020, and Intel has promised that the next generation processors will do away with the methods used in the last five generations of chips. The most significant changes are the backporting of the 10nm Sunny Cove core architecture from Ice Lake chips to 14nm and the adoption of Intel Xe graphics from Tiger Lake.

Despite these fairly significant changes, the same LGA 1200 socket is maintained. This can be seen in a rather generic image posted on Bilibili by user Yuki_AnS (via WCCFTech), which claims to be of Intel's upcoming 11th generation processors.

Of course, it could also be one of the similar processors Intel has announced over the past few years. But it makes sense." With the release date not too far away, Intel has already confirmed many of the Rocket Lake specs, and it is time to see what these chips are really like.

Intel has also promised a new 500 series chipset to accompany the next generation of CPUs, so motherboard makers will want to test the chips in-house as soon as possible.

Hopefully, we'll get a better idea of how they perform in gaming soon. Intel promises a significant IPC improvement with the 11th generation on desktops, which bodes well for gaming performance.

They say good things come in pairs, and today's Rocket Lake leak is accompanied by another leak: Videocardz was successful in obtaining an image of what is believed to be Intel Alder Lake, the 12th generation hybrid architecture to be announced by Intel in late 2021. Intel Alder Lake, the 12th generation hybrid architecture to be announced by Intel in late 2021.

It is immediately apparent from the pictures posted on the site that Alder Lake is a significant departure from previous desktop CPU architectures and processor lineups. Built around both the Gracemont core, Intel is confident that this combination will deliver improved performance-per-watt and desktop performance.

This huge chip will also require a new socket; the larger footprint of Alder Lake has been rumored for over a year now, and a picture was posted not long ago along with the reported socket pinout: LGA 1700

. There is not much more that can be read from the leaked photos than what we already know, that both Rocket Lake and Alder Lake are currently shipping for testing. Nevertheless, it is exciting to see what Intel is preparing behind the scenes to compete with the AMD Ryzen 5000.
