LG quietly announces high-speed 27-inch FreeSync premium gaming monitor

At first glance, LG's new 27-inch UltraGear 27GN800-B gaming monitor looks almost identical to another monitor with a similar model number (27GN850-B). Both feature faster screens and offer similar specifications overall, but the new 27GN800-B is actually a bit different (and hopefully ends up a bit cheaper to boot).

The 27GN800-B, like the 27GN850-B that came before it, is another LG monitor with an IPS panel. Like its predecessor, it has a native 2560x1440 (QHD) resolution, a refresh rate of 144 Hz, and a very fast gray-to-gray response time of 1 ms, making it a good choice for gaming with mid-range and/or high-end graphics cards.

Both are also FreeSync Premium models that have passed Nvidia's G-Sync compatibility certification program, allowing the display's refresh rate to match the GPU for smoother gaming, whether it is a Radeon GPU or GeForce GPU It is capable of matching the refresh rate of the display to the GPU for smoother gaming.

Key specifications are as follows:

Most specifications are the same as the 27GN850-B, but for this monitor, LG lists a DCI-P3 color gamut (98%) rating instead of sRGB. Power consumption is also lower on the newer 27GN800-B (45-48W versus 51-55W), but otherwise both have a pair of HDMI inputs, a DisplayPort connector, and a headphone output jack, each without built-in speakers.

This (as far as I can tell) boils down to the more paltry stand: the 27GN800-B's stand is tilt-only, with no height or pivot adjustment. So, depending on pricing, one might compare these two models on the basis of ergonomics or economy.

LG has yet to announce pricing or even formally introduce the 27GN800-B. For reference, the 27GN850-B costs $450 at Best Buy. I expect the 27GN800-B to be at least $50 cheaper.
