Newegg expects tight inventory of AMD Ryzen 9 5900X and 5950X on launch day

AMD's Ryzen 5000 series CPUs go on sale today at 6 a.m. PT, but online electronics retailer Newegg already has a heads-up on the availability of at least two of the new Zen 3 processors, the Ryzen 9 5950X and Ryzen 9 5900X.

But this is normal procedure for technology announcements. I can't remember a single time, at least in my professional life, when something new and shiny didn't sell out immediately. Due to the nature of chip manufacturing, for better or worse, supply and demand are always in flux.

So it's not too surprising when Newegg says that Ryzen 9 5950X and Ryzen 9 5900X inventory is "very limited and will sell out quickly." After all, these are high-end chips and require the purest chiplets that AMD's chipmaker TSMC can offer.

On the bright side, Newegg also noted that Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 5 5600X inventory is in pretty good shape, which is good news for those looking for an 8- or 6-core gaming CPU.

Following the erratic launch of Nvidia's RTX 30 series, retailers are eager to implement effective anti-bot measures and ensure that available processors are in the hands of real customers, not resellers Newegg confirmed that anti-bot measures are again "in full force" . As such, it also recommends using the Newegg app to speed up checkout times.

"Other major retailers are also likely to be on the lookout for bots, and we recommend keeping an eye on all retailers if you plan to get a 12- or 16-core processor today.

The Ryzen 5000 series will go on sale today at 6am PT (2pm UK). If you're still trying to decide which is the best CPU for gaming, read PC Gamer's first Zen 3 review.
