Kerbal Space Program 2 Postponed Again, This Time to 2022

Creative Director Nate Simpson posted on the Kerbal Space Program forum, announcing that Kerbal Space Program 2, one of the 13 notable games to look forward to next year, will be delayed to 2022.

"We have heard over and over again from this community that quality is paramount," Simpson wrote, "and we feel the same way. It is not enough to offer many new features; they must be put together as a stable and polished whole. We are creating a reliable foundation on which players and modders alike can build for the next decade or more. To do that, we need to solve problems that have never been solved before, and that takes time."

Simpson continued that more images, videos, and developer diaries will be released, and "we hope they will help get us through 2021 a little faster."

Kerbal Space Program 2 was originally scheduled for release in 2020, but has already been delayed twice. Read our first look at the game here.

In February, it was announced that development had moved from Star Theory Games to Intercept, a new studio under publisher Take-Two's Private Division label; Bloomberg reports that Star Theory founder When talks between the founders of Star Theory and Take-Two stalled over the sale of Star Theory, Take-Two pulled out of the deal and sent a message to employees to join the new studio and develop Kerbal Space Program 2 in-house, leaving Star Theory short of cash. The company closed in March.
