The next "Battlefield" will be on an "unprecedented" scale.

In its Q2 2021 financial report, publisher Electronic Arts reaffirmed that the next Battlefield game will be released in Holiday 2021. Not only that, but EA CEO Andrew Wilson thinks it will be a big one.

"DICE is working on the next Battlefield game on a scale never seen before," CEO Wilson said in remarks prepared for EA's report.

"The technological advancements in the new consoles will allow the team to realize a true next-generation vision for the franchise.

He also confirmed that playtesting is already underway internally for an untitled follow-up to 2018's Battlefield 5. 2021, a release date, would be the longest release interval in Battlefield's series history.

Elsewhere, Wilson reported that six new games are scheduled to be released for "next generation consoles" in fiscal year 2022. One of them is a new "Need for Speed" game being developed by Criterion, which is said to boast "an incredible visual leap."

In the world of live games, "Apex Legends" and "The Sims 4" will continue to update, and the usual production line of EA Sports titles will keep moving. Notably, there was no mention of a reboot of Anthem, Dragon Age, or a new Star Wars game.
