Try Worms Rumble's Real-Time Deathmatch for Free This Weekend

We're not sure exactly who Worms Rumble is for. But whether you're excited about Team 17's real-time, battle royale worm deathmatch or morbidly curious to see a major departure from the series' roots, this weekend's open beta will satisfy your curiosity ahead of the December 1 launch.

Ditching series staples like turn-based explosions and fully destructible landscapes, "Worms Rumble" instead unleashes the dirtbags in a 32-player battle royale. While players will still be throwing bazooka rounds and holy hand grenades at each other, they won't have the benefit of a leisurely countdown to position the perfect shot.

From the new trailer, it appears that weapons have been dramatically reduced. It would be nice to at least be able to unleash sheep onto the field.

Our Fraser went into this expecting the worst from "Worms Rumble" earlier this year, and while he ultimately liked its slapstick real-time fights, he still called it "too stripped of classic Worms magic to be a truly worthy successor."

[8] The film is a "good" film, but not a "great" film.

[8] "While I'm glad Team17 feels unbound by tradition, the scope of the changes and deleted features make 'Rumble' feel more like a spin-off than a new 'Worms. Even "Worms Crazy Golf" has more in common with the rest of the series."[9][10] Personally, I've always been a little more favorable to the black sheep of the series ("Worms 3D" is a good game, fight me), but I may be more favorable to this experimental new "Worms". If you're curious to see if Worms Rumble can pull off its controversial concept, you can download the beta for free on Steam until 12am PT/8am GMT this Monday, November 9.
