New Razer Book 13 to steal Intel x86 MacBook fans away from Apple

Razer today announced the new Razer Book 13. According to the press release, the Razer Book 13 is a Tiger Lake laptop targeted at "go-getters, side hustlers, and spirited entrepreneurs." So if you are one or more of the above, it may be time to get excited.

To hear them describe it, it sounds like an art sculpture: "machined from a single block of aluminum" and "anodized in mercury white. But this lightweight aluminum chassis means that the Razer Book 13 model weighs in at about 3 pounds and is just over 0.5 inches thick.

That is, it is covered by the "thinnest display bezel in the world.

In other words, it looks a lot like Apple's MacBook Pro.

The specs come in two main configurations: option 1 is an Intel Core i5 1135G7 with a base frequency of 2.4 GHz and boost clock of 3.8 GHz, which comes with 8GB LPDDR4 memory, but only a 256GB PCIe M.2 SSD is available, and option 2 is an Intel Core i5 1135G7 with a base frequency of 2.4 GHz and boost clock of 3.8 GHz, It does not feature touchscreen technology or Gorilla Glass for FHD displays.

Option 2 is the Intel Core i7 1165G7 model with a base/boost frequency of 2.8GHz/4.7GHz respectively, 16GB LPDDR4 memory, and 256GB or 512GB SSD PCIe M.2 storage on the i7 model, Gorilla Glass 6 with anti-glare and touch technology is also included, but only the 512GB model will feature a UHD 4K panel. This model also has a battery that lasts about 3 hours less than the less capable model.

Each new Razer Book 13 will feature two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB-A 3.2 Gen2 port, one HDMI 2.0 port, the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. 3.5 mm Combo audio port supports THX Spatial Audio, which can be played through the upward-facing side speakers with Smart Amplifier technology. If you game with this keyboard, it features anti-ghosting technology and all keys are illuminated with Razers signature Chroma lighting.

The release of the new Razer Book 13 appears to be a clever play by Razer to snatch up the MacBook market with an Intel-powered device to replace the company's ARM-powered device that is rumored to arrive next week.

Since Apple plans to ditch Intel, Razer intends to be at the forefront with these new touchscreen Tiger Lake laptops, which will be available later this month, with Core i5 models starting at $1,200 and Core i7 models at around $1,600.
