Logitech's G512 SE mechanical keyboard with RGB lighting is a bargain at $50
[The Logitech G512 SE is not a contender for the absolute best gaming keyboard. However, its current price of $49.99 at Best Buy makes it one of the best deals in the mechanical keyboard space.

Our favorite mechanical keyboard, Corsair's K95 RGB Platinum, costs more than twice as much for a refurbished model and more than three times as much new. As with most things, you get more for your money. So what do you get with the G512 SE?

Value sometimes means crap, but not here: the G512 SE's frame is made of an anodized, satin-finished aluminum and magnesium alloy. Logitech claims this is "aircraft grade," but we've never cut a keyboard apart to build an airplane, nor do we recommend trying it.

The version on the market also uses Logitech's GX Blue keyswitches. These are tactile, clicky (and loud), similar to the Cherry MX Blue switches. I'm a fan of the Blue switches myself, but if you prefer quieter, more linear switches, you should wait until these models go on sale (the G512 SE is also available with GX Brown and Red switches, but the lowest price elsewhere is $99.99 from Logitech direct sales).

While there are no gaming-specific keys or fancy LCD-like features, this is not a completely bare-bones mechanical keyboard. It has customizable RGB backlighting, and Logitech's Lightsync technology lets you sync it with your games and other content Not bad for $50.

As far as I can tell, the last time this keyboard was on sale at this price was last December; Best Buy lists the regular price at $149.99, which is actually $99.99, which seems a bit high. However, at the current discounted price, it's a better buy than Logitech's K840, a top choice for gamers on a budget.
