The Rapture is here and you will be forcibly removed from your home.

For the last year at least, it feels like the world is on the verge of ending for good. In the midst of this, Conor Sherlock, creator of The Rapture Is Here And You Will Be Forcibly Removed From Your Home, released this week on Itch Forcibly Removed From Your Home," recreates a brief apocalypse.

Now, when the Rapture first occurred in 2014, we took up the Rapture in awe of its 22 minutes of absolute helplessness before the apocalypse. Today, Sherlock released an updated version of the long-dormant game on Itch, ahead of a more fully-fledged re-release next year.

Indeed, it is a slight update. Developed a few months after the original Gamejolt release, the new version had not been released for years. It boasts a new voiceover recording, a new skybox, several bug fixes, remade assets, and a tree.

"It's still janky and weird, but it runs at 10,000 frames per second," Sherlock wrote.

But what I'm really excited about is the prospect of a whole new apocalypse: on the Itch page, Sherlock notes that a "completely rebuilt version" created over the past few months will appear next year as part of "Walking Simulator A Month Club" and notes: the Complete Edition will be available next year.

Sherlock runs the Patreon, creating such a huge, open space that one has no choice but to walk around and enjoy the atmosphere. The sheer scale of the place is overwhelming, often oppressive in its intricate architecture or intimidating in its sheer emptiness. With the lights dimmed and the volume of my headphones turned up, I get goosebumps and excitement.

Next year's complete edition will feature more than 40 of these massive spaces. It's the perfect place for a Rapture.
