Call of Duty" player stumbles across a third-person mode that's too cool to be true.

In a strange twist of FPS fate, a "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" player accidentally discovered third-person view mode during a "spec ops" match Reddit user lIllIlIIlIIl posted his discovery Friday on the Call of Duty: Warzone subreddit and published a short clip demonstrating the oddly functioning third-person camera.

Weird because, as you can see in the video below, the bug doesn't just freeze lIllIlIIlIIl's view from an overhead perspective like a traditional spectator camera. When you take aim, the camera zooms in over your shoulder and reacts like a third-person shooter. The only thing missing is the aiming reticle.

I honestly didn't think I would like the third-person perspective in "Call of Duty" as much as I do. The character animations and models are amazingly well done, even though the game is primarily in first person view. It's kind of like PUBG or, as many people have pointed out in the comments, a current SOCOM game from an alternate universe.

Regardless of its origins, I'd like to know if it's a vestige of the spectator mechanics in Spec Ops mode, or the discontinued third-person perspective option, or if it can be adapted to a mode like Warzone that more people actually enjoy. I'd love to know how a Warzone match would feel with a third-person perspective like corner-picking taken into account; Infinity Ward is always trying strange new variations to mix up the battle royale mode. The powers that be should make it happen.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had an official third-person perspective playlist in 2009 that supported multiple game modes. It was janky and unnatural, but a pleasant distraction after the 15th team deathmatch of the day. The official third-person mode, Warzone, might work for the same reason.

lIllIlIIlIIl stated in his comments that it was an accident that triggered the bug. He also explains how the bug occurred, and it does not seem to be very difficult to reproduce. Apparently, a teammate simply left the game while lIllIlIIlIIlIIl revived him. It appears that the game got confused and the camera kept panning.
