In August, after almost a year of silence, "Blood Bowl 3," a mix of round-based fantasy football and fantasy warfare, was, like everything else this year, delayed to early 2021. At the recent Games Made in France streaming event (which usually features a number of booths during Paris Games Week), developer Cyanide Studio provided some new information about what to expect from the next installment as coach ...
To be more faithful to the board game, Blood Bowl 3 will add the teams added to the 2020 edition of the board game. In addition, Special Play Cards will be introduced. Special Play Cards are cards that temporarily buff your player or assassinate the top player on the opposing team before the game.
Blood Bowl 3 adds four new races to the previous eight: Black Orcs, Imperial Nobility, Old World Alliance, and Chaos Renegades. The Imperial Nobility are not actually a race, but a motley crew of nobles dressed in frilly clothes and rather impressive shiny armor. One of the special skills of the Imperial Nobility is their ability to restrict the movements of other teams. The Chaos Renegades, by comparison, are the exact opposite: they are basically borderland psycho players, so malevolent that they cannot find another team. In Blood Bowl, as in Warhammer, being mean is half the fun.
There is also a campaign mode where star players will invite your team to play. I'm not sure how that works, but it seems that the star players basically play the role of generals on the prairie battlefields of American football. Apart from that, there are options for colors, patterns, logos, armor, stadiums, etc.
Not a huge amount of new information, but it is a sign of life. If you speak French, you can watch the entire Cyanide Studio interview on Twitch.
