Gaming Headset Deal: Audio-Technica's ATH-PG1 now marked down to $80 ($50 off)

Audio-Technica is best known for its studio-quality headphones, microphones, and other audio equipment, but the company has also made several forays into gaming products, including the ATH-PG1, a sealed gaming headset with a detachable microphone, currently available at Amazon-owned Woot It is priced at $79.99. This is $20 less than the current Amazon price and $50 less than the typical price.

The Audio-Technica ATH-PG1 is a wired gaming headset with 44mm drivers and a lightweight construction. Included in the box are two cables: one with a dual-use headphone/microphone jack and the other ending in two separate 3.5mm connectors. The former works with smartphones, tablets, and other complex audio devices; the latter works with most desktop PCs. If a USB output is absolutely necessary, an inexpensive adapter can be used.

The headset's microphone is removable, so when not playing games, it can be removed and the ATH-PG1 can be used as regular wired headphones. It is a condenser microphone and there is a mute control on the headset cable (there is also a volume button).

We reviewed the ATH-PG1 when it was first released and gave it an 80/100 for its excellent open-back design and high-quality microphone. The hardware construction was not worth the original $200 price tag, but at the new, reduced price, that is less of an issue.
