CD Projekt Kicks Off New Rumors of "Cyberpunk 2077" Delay

Two weeks ago, CD Projekt delayed the release of Cyberpunk 2077 from its November schedule to December 10. Today, CD Projekt reaffirmed that release date and told IGN that the date is certain.

"As a rule, we do not comment on rumors or speculation," the company said. I will confirm, however, that we were simply taking the time to update all of our assets to reflect the new release date of December 10."

This unusual confirmation, as far as I can tell, was triggered by a rumor that started with this tweet:

Although there is no clear basis for this tweet, the account gained attention earlier this year when it predicted a cancellation almost a week before E3 was to take place. As this Vice report notes, subsequent communications regarding the Nintendo Direct event were not quite on target, but still close enough to warrant the necessary rumors.

A more cynical reader than I might point out that CD Projekt had promised weeks before this postponement that there would be "no more postponements" and had "fully confirmed" that the November release date was a certainty the day before the delay was announced.

Hopefully there will be no more such surprises in the next month or so. However, the account of the rumor that started the whole debacle has not yet convinced us.
