AOC and Porsche Design Collaborate on Major Cast Iron Work

Monitor maker AOC has once again teamed up with Porsche Design to present the Porsche Design AOC AGON PD27.

Somewhere between an '80s executive toy and a "Borderlands 3" technical, this stand looks like a dying Terminator with its metal arms reaching across the desk.

It's certainly no 911, and unless something seriously impressive is going on under the hood, it's going to have a hard time finding its way onto the best gaming monitors list.

The inevitable racing-inspired claims are strong, but the screen's tight curves and charcoal gray casing suggest that the designers may have had tires in mind: in addition to QHD resolution, the 240Hz refresh rate and DisplayHDR 400 certification, 0.5 second MPRT pixel response, and Freesync Premium Pro. Also included are 5W stereo speakers, a USB 3.2 hub, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and DisplayPort 1.4.

Additionally, it comes with a wireless IR keypad (aka remote control) for adjusting settings. This is said to be shaped like a car's center console for some reason, but since no pictures were provided, we have to take AOC's word for it.

If one is taste-impaired, one could "liven up the gaming environment" by projecting the screen's logo in various colors onto the table or by lighting up the back of the display; think ROG, and you get the idea.

"Gamers around the world will be excited to experience this amazing product, both in terms of design and outstanding gaming performance," claims Stefan Sommer, director of marketing and business management at AOC Europe.

We will be the judge of how excited we are to experience this strange Porsche Design collaboration.

It will be available at the end of this month, with an RRP of £719.99, which is frankly exorbitant. Or wait and see what the rise of next-gen consoles means for 4K gaming monitors. *spoiler* The price has dropped.
