HyperX Makes Popular Cloud II Gaming Headset Wireless for $150

Kingston's HyperX Cloud II Wireless, a cordless version of our former favorite gaming headset, is available now. Priced at $150 in the US and $220 in Canada, it is $50 less than the SteelSeries Arctis 9X, which we consider the best wireless gaming headset.

We have not tested the wireless model, but if it offers the same overall sound quality and comfort as the HyperX Cloud II (which is a rebranded Qpad QH-90), it would be worth considering, especially at the asking price.

According to The Verge, this is exactly the same headset, minus the permanently attached cord. However, the specifications are slightly different. Both headsets use large 53mm drivers with neodymium magnets, but the Cloud II has a frequency response of 15Hz to 25kHz, while HyperX claims the Cloud II Wireless has a frequency response of 15Hz to 20kHz.

There is also a difference in the rated nominal sound pressure level, but the product page shows that the wireless model has an advantage, increasing from 98 ± 3 dB to 104 dB at 1 kHz. Theoretically, the Cloud II Wireless should be able to produce a slightly louder sound than the wired model.

Custom-tuned 7.1 virtual surround sound is part of the package, presumably the same seven algorithm-driven sources as the wired version. There is also a built-in removable noise-canceling microphone that can be monitored to ensure that you don't inadvertently shout at your teammates.

According to Kingston, a single charge provides "more than a day of gaming," which is another way of saying up to 30 hours. For comparison, the Arctix 9X is rated at over 20 hours, but SteelSeries says that claim is based on testing 90 dB of pink noise simultaneously with Bluetooth and Xbox Wireless.

Those interested in the Cloud II Wireless can order it directly from HyperX.
