The loot caves are back in Destiny 2: Beyond Light.

The loot caves are back in Destiny 2: Beyond Light.

Destiny 2 brings back one of the loot shooter's most infamous grinding spots, but if you're looking to boost your power level with the new expansion, you're going to miss this dirty old cave.

This week's "Beyond Light" expansion removed half of the game's planets, but the Cosmodrome from the original Destiny is back. Considering that game never made it to the PC, just being able to roam around old Russia is novel enough, but it also means that you can visit a particularly legendary hole in the ground.

At the time of Destiny's launch, Guardians were immediately drawn to this cave. If far enough away, they could be popped when Fallen NPCs respawned, creating a steady stream of engrams. The cave was quickly removed (Bungie cursed players at GDC for not choosing particularly efficient tactics), but it remains a silent shrine to the need to grind people's gear.

However, you won't be drowning in engrams at Beyond Light. This is a veritable modified version of the cave, and while I did find a regional chest in this cave, there were no rogues waiting to turn it into gear. Instead, there is a smoldering Fallen that was the victim of an early Guardian. Interacting with it, a horrified voice whispered:

"A million deaths are not enough for Master Rahool."

The Cosmodrome itself is fleshed out with new world events and activities as part of Beyond Light's roadmap. Sure, there are no new goodies in Destiny's dirtiest cave, but who knows? Maybe someday more old and dirty treasures will be dug out from under the Cosmodrone.
