Vaping is bad for Xbox Series X health, Microsoft says

In a move that is far from 420-friendly, Microsoft has asked users not to blow vape smoke on their Xbox Series X consoles.

The news comes from Xbox's official Twitter account. The company stated:

"I can't believe I have to say this, but please don't blow vape smoke on your Xbox Series X, it's a very bad idea.

If you're not up-to-date on the latest in weird Internet trends, here's a brief explanation of why Microsoft felt the need to warn users of the dangers of blowing vape smoke into their next-generation consoles. It is all a simple misunderstanding.

Basically, a video appeared online claiming that "smoke" was rising from the top of a brand new Xbox Series X and that it was the result of the console shutting down due to a malfunction. The video was dubious at best, but that didn't stop onlookers from expressing concern about their own next-generation consoles.

To stem the spread of misinformation, a Twitter account called Xbox Studio confirmed that this effect can be replicated only with a fairly large and dope vape. When the console is turned off, the fan keeps spinning long enough for the gaseous vape juice to blow out through the vertical chamber design, making the console appear to be on fire, or at least ripping through a thick cloud.

By the way, it is highly unlikely that the console will ever get close to ignition, even with some pretty serious neglect. After all, all internal technologies, like the T-junction limits of the primary chip, have specific limits for heat generation.

Also, the chip at the heart of the Xbox Series X is built on the exact same architecture as the upcoming RX 6000 series GPUs: sure, the Series X is said to be a bit hot, but we've seen PCs like a steam bath for years that are about to catch fire. We've seen steaming PCs over the years, but never one that looked like it was about to catch fire.

Microsoft notes a link to a support website, which they say addresses all non-vape related support questions. There, they list several currently known issues with the console, including 4K/120Hz compatibility issues with VRR and firmware, Quick Resume quirks, and incompatible apps.
