Walmart is selling a Gateway gaming laptop for $849.

The first gaming laptop I purchased in 2008 was a Gateway P-7811FX. It was one of the first models that performed well above its price, back when gaming laptops were still ridiculously expensive. Now, more than a decade later, Gateway is doing the same thing, this time with an all-new model featuring a Core i5 10300H processor and a GeForce RTX 2060 GPU for $849 at Walmart.

This is a ridiculously affordable price for a laptop that combines a Comet Lake CPU and RTX 2060 GPU. We often show you cheap deals on gaming laptops, but we don't recall ever seeing this combo on sale this cheap.

Of course, cheapness is relative. But usually at this price point, you are looking at a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti GPU and cannot expect to play games with ray tracing enabled.

Gateway used to be a major OEM as far back as the mid-1980s. However, the situation deteriorated in the early 2000s, and in 2007 Acer acquired the struggling company for $710 million. Acer still owns the Gateway brand and recently revived it in the U.S. through an exclusive partnership with Wal-Mart.

In other words, only the name is "Gateway" (some user reviews claim it is made by Evoo). Call it what you will, but this is a bargain for the hardware, and some of the pieces are modest, as one would expect at this price point, such as 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. However, it seems easy to open up the laptop and upgrade these components.

The 15.6" 1080p display is also impressive with a 120Hz refresh rate; I/O options include an HDMI port, two mini DisplayPort connectors, a GbE LAN port, two USB 3.1 Type-A ports and USB-C ports, and a microSD card slot.
