Half-Pint somehow crammed Half-Life into a small room.

We all have the urge to replay "Half-Life. But who has time nowadays to wander aimlessly through the underground labyrinths of Black Mesa? Thankfully, MrFloyd has compressed Gordon Freeman's bloody journey into one level as part of the Half-Life co-mod "TWHL Tower 2."

Following its 2016 predecessor, TWHL Tower 2 tasks you with making your way through terribly strange tower blocks. Each floor is a custom-built level created by members of the Half-Life mapping community, and each floor resets your stats and weapons, giving you a fresh start on each map.

This alone is well worth checking out, but the real highlight is floor 18, "Half-Pint-" where MrFloyd attempts to cram the entire Half-Life 1 experience into an office district floor space.

Frankly, it's lovely. The Resonance Cascade Chamber is little more than a dangerous closet in a lobby that just seems a little cramped. From the first guard to the last teleporter to Xen, the complex is perfectly represented, and while Black Mesa's developers were scratching their heads over how to remake that infamous streetcar, MrFloyd seems to have come up with a solution that will please everyone.

Half-Pint has found a way to make it challenging, with easy escape room puzzles and claustrophobic ambushes. More than a game, however, these levels are a fascinating breakdown of Half-Life's expansive journey. Each chapter contains one or two rooms that capture the essence of the game.

With the exception of Xen. Floyd couldn't care less about Xen. In the infamous border world, the last room on the level would simply have a small sticky note saying so in a gallery showing every step of Gordon Freeman's journey. It has been your journey, too. You were still climbing out of trash compactors, shooting soldiers, and hitting something with a crowbar. Only that it was all done in a few square feet of space.

The fact that this is just one of the many floors of TWHL Tower 2 says it all. The mod can be downloaded for free from the MODDB page.
