Best 14” gaming laptop reduced to $1,700.

General
Best 14” gaming laptop reduced to $1,700.

When we review a gaming laptop, we put it through its paces. Our own Jacob knows gaming laptops better than anyone, and in his review he gave this Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 a 90.

We couldn't recommend it more highly.

This little lappy was named the best 14-inch gaming laptop in our Best Gaming Laptops guide, and you can get it now for $1,700 at Best Buy. That may seem like a lot of money for a small machine, but what you're getting here is a set of components that outshine the competition, all wrapped up in an enclosure that looks miles ahead of the competition.

Let's talk about the star of this machine, the 14” OLED 120Hz display. It has great color and contrast, and with a slightly larger aspect ratio of 16:10, the screen area doesn't feel too constrained by such a compact size. It's great for movies in flight, but it's really beautiful in person, and games bring out the best in it.

Speaking of gaming, here's a piece of hardware that delivers excellent performance. This RTX 4070 has a TGP limit of 90W as opposed to the full 140W found in some (usually larger) laptops, but still outperforms the RTX 4060 by a considerable margin.

As for the CPU, the Zephyrus G14 uses an 8-core, 16-thread AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS. It gets a little hot when pushed to the limit, but it has plenty of power for on-the-go gaming and a bit of productivity work, and the 32GB of LPDDR5X-6400 RAM is plenty, too.

It's soldered to the board, which is really just fine; you can't upgrade the RAM, but given these specs, there's no need to mess with the memory.

Disadvantages” The storage is only 1TB, which is pretty standard, but maybe a little anemic. We would like to see more 2TB drives in gaming laptops, but 1TB is fine unless you are going bananas with a huge installation. Unlike RAM, however, SSDs are upgradeable, so you can find a great deal on a 2TB SSD and make room for it.

Finally, the chassis: the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 looks and feels truly premium, thanks to its milled aluminum frame that won't look out of place in any professional environment. combined with the 14” form factor, the gamer is a brilliant looking gaming notebook that doesn't feel like a gamer. It looks and feels like a serious laptop.

And considering the hardware inside, it performs well, too. It's the best 14-inch laptop we've reviewed so far, and at this price, it's a real bargain.
