Music Turns Out to Be the End of the Line for "Stardew Valley" Creator Eric Baron: "I've always dreamed of people appreciating my music.

Stardew Valley's international "Festival of Seasons" concert tour was quite a success, with tickets selling out quickly. In light of its success, Stardew creator Eric Baron takes some time to reflect on the tour, especially the New York show, and what it means to him.

"Music has always been my main thing, even before I considered the possibility of becoming a game developer. I wanted to be a musician," Barone said in a behind-the-scenes interview with NYC Town Hall (via GamesRadar). Music has always been special to me." I've always dreamed of people appreciating my music. So just to be here on this tour and to see people excited to hear my music is really satisfying for me.

It's no secret that "Stardew Valley" draws a lot of inspiration from "Ranch Tales. Still, it also turns out that Barone created the soundtrack in an attempt to emulate the classic RPG. He said, "I wanted to create something that was reminiscent of the classic RPGs of the Super NES and PlayStation 1 era."

Barone has previously joked about the difficulty he had in getting his music heard. He said, "When I was a kid, I wanted to be a composer, but nobody wanted to listen to my music. So after years of frustration, I finally found the secret. All I had to do was develop an entire video game from scratch. Then people would finally listen to my music."

An extreme way to realize a dream, to be sure, but honestly, the end result is pretty amazing. Not only do they get to enjoy Stardew Valley, but they now have another way to appreciate great music. Says Barone, "It's really satisfying for me to get more people playing the game and to bring the music to as many people as possible through concert tours like this one."

But no matter how daunting it may seem, the Festival of Seasons proves that where there is a will, there is a way. Not only did Barone have to create an entire game just to showcase his music, he did it with no formal musical education and produced the soundtrack. I was always into playing [music], but I never learned anything," Barone explains. 'I didn't know how to read music, I didn't know anything about music theory.'
